New outbreak of sectarian violence threatens Syria’s Christians
Horrific images from a massacre in Syria last weekend are shaking the global Christian community. Among thousands of Alawites murdered by the new ruling HTS forces, an unknown number of Christians were also slaughtered. While Christians were not the primary targets, and it is inaccurate to say there is a genocide underway, there is a saying in Syria: first the Alawites, then the Christians. The new Syrian president has charmed many in the West by donning a suit to meet with the UN and other international bodies, who welcome him with open arms. But let’s not be fooled by a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Christians can’t afford to ignore his deep ties with al-Qaeda. We pray for stability, for an end to sectarian violence, and that Christians will be protected by a government that genuinely honors diverse religious beliefs.
Columbia student faces deportation for pro-Hamas activities
Columbia University is once again a hotbed of antisemitism and terrorist support. But this time, we have leaders that will enforce our nation’s laws. This week, Mahmoud Khalil, a grad student at Columbia, was picked up by ICE and taken to Louisiana to be processed for deportation. He’s been leading efforts to promote Hamas on campus, including distributing materials and organizing events that explicitly support Hamas and call for violence against Jews and Zionists. Khalil has a green card and is married to a U.S. citizen, making him a permanent resident. Nine formidable lawyers also represent him, so it could be a drawn-out case. But immigration law is clear: Khalil’s activities are illegal. The U.S. cannot allow those privileged to be in our country to break our laws by undermining our values and the safety of our Jewish neighbors.

Today begins the Jewish holiday of Purim. Purim commemorates God’s deliverance of the Jewish people from annihilation after Esther, the Queen of Persia and a Jew, courageously saved her people in the 5th century B.C. Yet, celebrations are painful for the second year in a row. Join me as we stand in solidarity with our Jewish friends as they remember the hostages who have not yet been delivered from Gaza. We have faith that redemption will come for God’s chosen and justice will be rendered unto the evil.
