On this Jewish holiday, we remember the divine deliverance of the Jewish people throughout history.
The Story of Purim
Purim is the Jewish holiday commemorating God’s deliverance of the Jewish people from annihilation after Esther, the Queen of Persia (modern-day Iran) and a Jew, courageously saved her people in the 5th century B.C.
Purim is a time to celebrate the deliverance of the Jewish people. To celebrate, Jews read the Book of Esther, give gifts to one another, donate to the poor, bake pastries, dress in costumes, and put on plays!
God’s Chosen People
Purim is a reminder of God’s unwavering role throughout history in delivering His people from evil.
The horrors of October 7th demonstrate history’s persistent hatred toward the Jewish people. Yet, as God’s Chosen People, they continue not just to survive but to celebrate the beauty of Judaism despite such persecution.
‘Spirit of Amalek’
Haman, the Persian ruler who sought to destroy the Jews, was an Amalekite, embodying the enduring “Spirit of Amalek,” or hatred, against God’s people.
This traces back to the Amalekites’ attack on Israel in Exodus and King Saul’s failure to obey God’s command to eliminate the Amalekites.
Through all such attacks against Israel, God delivered His people.
Antisemitism In The West
The rampant antisemitism in the West was amplified after October 7th with public displays of Jew-hatred at American universities, in Hollywood, and beyond.
In the midst of so much darkness, this Purim, we remember that change begins with a single voice like that of Queen Esther.
This Purim, celebrations are painful for the second year in a row.
Join me as we stand in solidarity with our Jewish friends as they remember the hostages who have not yet been delivered from Gaza.
We have faith that redemption will come for God’s chosen and justice will be rendered unto the evil.

Christians must unite with Israel and the Jewish people. We must stand in solidarity with our spiritual forefathers to defend our shared values.
As we celebrate Purim, let us give thanks for the protection of God’s people. Let us also pray for an increased understanding of the incredible beauty found within the Jewish faith and tradition.
We invite you to read the Book of Esther this weekend to meditate on this holiday.
